Ann the Duck Kitten
Ann was a playful striped orange tabby kitten raised by
a family of mallards. She even thought she was a duckling!
She ate corn like the other ducks but could never understand why they thought
it was such a treat. The rest of the family swam and dove expertly,
but all she could do was dogpaddle! Whenever Ann tried to join in
the water games like Marco Polo or Webbed Feet Go! she always ended
being teased and left behind. Like all the other ducklings she faithfully
followed her “mother” and tried to be a good duckling and daughter.
Secretly Ann was proud of the way she did not waddle like her siblings.
Though when she felt compelled to chase a mouse all the ducklings whispered,
“I think she lost it!” Then one day she had an accident so awful
that it excluded her from her family forever…
