No physical cost, no shipping, no storage, instant availability. It's the bookstores that suffer when you download an ebook instead of ordering the physical copy--not the online bookstores (which is why Amazon and B&N are both giving a promotional push to their ereaders--same benefits for them, they get a sale without worrying about inventory, etc.) but the bricks and mortar ones. I have mixed emotions about ebooks and the effects on authors and publishers. I truly feel for the authors, however if it weren't for the lower cost on Kindle we would NEVER be able to read as many books as we do. My son (13) is reading many classics on Kindle for free. I know they are free at the library also, but our local library system is not good at all. No quality literature- plenty of junk. So, for us- kindle is a life saver. I hope that someone can come up with a creative solution to allow the industry to still make a living. It's going to take someone more creative than I to solve that issue!
