Yeah . I am checking some out from the library to see what she prefers. We've got a bunch of Childcraft books that are similar, and I am trying to figure out which brands of the big ones I want (not the "little" kid ones). We had the DK Animal Encyclopedia and she went through that every day for a month or two, and I have another Human Body Encyclopedia on the way, and we have a TimeLife space encyclopedia. But you're right, I totally need some more!!!! She loves field guides and encyclopedias.

I wish my budget was endless, lol. Every encyclopedia I can find plus all the Smithsonian field guides, and a nice globe and atlas, and I'm trying to afford NOEO Biology 1 for next year on top of all my other stuff, and then trying to decide if THAT will be too easy by then.

They assume the K students already know their letters. They have "which starts with this letter" activities before they even mention letters. There are letter pages, but they are one single trace of each letter and then into the activities. It looks like they write a whole story at the end, teaching about characters, guiding a detailed character creation, what happens to them, etc. I want to go pick up the Pre-K for her little sis.

Nature guides got used for several years. The History of Everyday Things series got read over and over. Drawing books were good. Classic books on tape were listened to multiple times. The Holling books lasted. The star chart was a good investment (but mostly because they forgot them from year to year). We had a book of cuisinaire rod puzzles that actually lasted a year. Mostly, though, I didn't bother with curriculum, just used the library.

Our encyclopedias of (insert topic) have lasted. Ds5 will stick with one for a while, then move to a different one, and eventually work his way back to the first one. We have 5 I think on different topics.

Also, I have a whole drawer of things I thought we would use but didn't. I make periodic trips to the teacher supply store in the next county (none closer) and trade them in for other things to try. Sometimes I get a hit, lol.

Great thanks! We have a lot of resources now but that is something to keep in mind for the summer. I'll probably check out the 1st grade book by then though.

We've done very well with Sonlight's core curriculum. Many, though not all of those books have been eagerly re-read over many months. We have three cores now, and will probably continue to purchase them. We do get books from the library every week, but many of the Sonlight ones have truly become favorites.
