He received the phone call last night and promptly called home. He is soooo excited. After 12 interviews and 8 rejections he was starting to give up hope. When he had this last interview he called home to say it went OK, but he was pretty sure that his fly had been unzipped the whole time
But it obviously turned out well because they offered him the position. He thinks he's going to be wealthy from the 3 months of work (they do pay the interns very well) and he informed his dad that we would no longer need to buy his gas or pay for his college. I appreciate the sentiment, but I think he isn't quite realistic about costs/taxes, etc. The suit that took him so long to get into is now at the dry cleaners and will probably not see the light of day until he has to wear one for his new job.

Cynthia,
You and your dh must be so proud. I hope your son learns a lot from the experience that will help him as he moves towards the working world. What a lesson in persistence, too, 8 rejections, then success! Way to go! Brenda |

Oh poor baby! I'm glad it turned out well, though. And I bet he's happy to be putting away that suit. It is sweet of him to try to lighten your finacial burden. I hope he winds up working with interesting people at his internship.

Congrats to your son. Can you say what he'll be doing during the internship?

It is with a petroleum company. He's a petroleum engineering major. At this point he doesn't really know exactly what his duties will be or where he will be located. Some of the choices are - within 30 minutes of home (yay!), the town where his grandparents live (they would love to have him for the summer), or the town my uncle lives in (uncle is only 5 years older than me and ds loves to golf with him).
He feels very lucky to get a position. The only students who seemed to be getting offers were either female or male with high GPAs who had already worked in the field. Students like ds (high gpa 3.9 but no experience) were not getting offers. One of his friends only had 3 interviews - he has a 3.6 gpa and no work-in-the-field experience. Tough competition out there!
