King Lear was! His story is told by Geoffrey of Monmouth in The History of the Kings of Britain. My oldest said, "I thought you knew that already, Mom!" No, I didn't----I think she must have read Shakespeares King Lear and some of the excellent historical notes that Roma Gill provides.
