View Full Version : Dog Hair - HELP!!

A little over a year ago, we got a beagle. Silly me, the dog looked somewhat short-haired at the humane society, so I agreed to him. One of my objections to a dog has ALWAYS been the dog houses that have pet hair all over everything.
Well, now that's my house.
Any suggestions to keep it under control? We brush him daily, and that helps, and I vacuum downstairs and Swiffer the wood floors daily, but I still see the dog hair everywhere - it gets on books, it collects on the feet of the chair legs, it collects in the corners. Uggh!
Is there a shampoo I can use, or some sort of polish or spray for the furniture to keep it from attracting the hair (OK, I know that's unrealistic, but I'm searching for anything here!).
Thanks!

Well, I keep telling my golden that I'm going to spray her with super glue if she doesn't stop shedding. Sure, she'd be less than soft and fluffy after that, but at least she'd keep her fur to herself. When I brush her, I can get enough fur off of her for a small yappy dog. Really!
Sorry - I know I'm no help, I can only commiserate with you.
p.s. Just in case anyone is getting ready to freak out - I would never really use super glue on my dear, sweet dog. I just the harbor secret desire to do so.

Get a Furminator. I can't believe how much extra hair comes off our ACD. It's also doing wonders on the cats, but not the border collies, I guess they aren't shedding yet.

Our beagle sheds non-stop. Doesn't matter how much we rub, brush, whatever him...the hair is EVERYWHERE.. We've gotten used to it and just make sure we do extra vacuuming before having company and my middle son is very good at vacuuming the living room furniture (my dog's favorite bed).
We did discover that the new couches we have in the family room do not collect his hair as much. They're made of microfiber. SOOO... when we update our living room furniture, it will be microfiber. :-)
Good luck!!

I think there are supplements you can give your dog to help with the shedding. It may not stop it entirely, but it should slow it a bit.:)

:D LOL, sorry, but I laugh every time a client asks me to get their dog to quit shedding. It is next to impossible. Sure, there are things like omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid supplements, running a humidifier, testing for hypothyroidism, changing the diet, etc. These things may decrease shedding. But virtually all dogs with hair shed. (There are some "hairless" dogs but I would not necessarily recommend them to anyone who is concerned about aesthetics). The hair follicles have a growth cycle. The old hair must shed as where else will it go?

I have three dogs. Two Bernese Mountain dogs -- very hairy and a Golden Retriever mix (need I say more). I cannot believe the difference this handy dandy tool has made.
