My boys test results came today, both scored a perfect score for math. We use Horizons only, at grade level, and in entirety. I'm so glad I did not push using two programs and followed my gutt when it said to focus on enjoying the learning process in a gentle age appropriate way.

If I may ask, do you do all the recommended activities in the Teacher's Guide or simply stick to the lessons? Also, do you do the supplemental worksheets?

Just wondering as I am using Horizons myself!

Thanks so much

They simply do one lesson per day and all of it, any that they miss we go over together on the white board.

Congratulations! May I ask how much time you are spending teaching their lessons? I am spoiled right now because I'm relying on MUS DVDs to teach the lesson, so I was just curious.

Thanks!

May I ask which test you administered? My younger boys use Horizons, and we test with the ITBS.

Thanks for sharing that info! I was just waffling (yet again!) over possibly switching programs even though Horizon seems to be working well for my kids.

What a great report! Horizons is a good solid program, isn't it?

We left Horizons for one brief year of Singapore, but now are back to stay. It really is a good program. Congrats!

We don't go by the clock, we simply do one lesson per day and I allow the boys to pick the order in that they do their work, with juggling three I don't want to be a clock watcher, but I would guess 20-30 minutes max - this included teaching new concepts, them doing the worksheet, I check them immediately with them there then we go over any that were missed.

This was the CAT and they took it in February, it was scored based on Spring norms.

Michele,

Congratulations! I love to hear results like these....
What grades are you using now?
My DS is doing Horizons 2 . We have not been using the TM. Do you think it is necessary to use the TM for Horizons 3 on up? Thanks.

Lesson 110 of Horizons book 2. He took the 2nd grade test and is 7.5.

My middle is technically a K'er he's 6 yrs 3 months & registered as a K'er. He took the K test after finishing Horizons K a few weeks ago. I just moved him on to 1st grade for all subjects, this was a difficult decision, but he's absolutely ready and doing well, I think I need to go by his age for level instead of where he'd be in public school.

I did order the TM for Horizon 3 when I ordered last evening, that is only because I have three close in age to juggle and I want the answer key to make checking work quicker.
