Anyone used Movies as Literature?

I just picked this up for my 8th grader to do just a couple of the movies right now as a gentle primer for deeper literary analysis next year. We'll intersperse more of the movies throughout highschool. How have you liked it? I see there is an accompanying student workbook. Is is it worth getting since the analysis questions are already in the tm? Thanks

Hi -
I used this at our co-op last year. THe kids loved watching the movies together. I handed out the info pages from the student text (I didn't get the TE!) about the movie the week before we watched the movie so they could look over the sheets at home prior to watching the movie. I found the discussions worked best after we watched a few movies as the kids then started comparing and analyzing more, etc.

It was fun - we took turns bringing movie "snacks"! Even a few parents joined us!

Thanks, Myra. Did you have the students write any compoistion with the given questions or was it mainly discussion?

We only had discussion - and towards the end of the semester the discussions were taking up the same amount of time as viewing the movies did! The kids (ages 12-15 plus some parents that wandered in) really were starting to get in to it!
