I posted an intro in the intro thread, but thought I'd also post one (a shorter one) here. I started visiting this board right after I first read the WTM book, in December 2004, before dd began kindergarten. Thus, not counting a couple years total in preschool, she hasn't been to school. WTM was the book that turned on the light bulb and convinced me "I can do this."
DD, 8, is 2nd grade this year, still plugging away at homeschooling bilingually. Next year, we start Latin! Her English reading skill is growing and I'm sure by then she'll do just fine. This year we use:
Bible: My Father's World- learning the names of Jesus, although we do the readings and copywork in Spanish
History: MFW Adventures- Intro to American History
Math: Mundo Matematico (going out of print :(. Searching for another Spanish math program to replace it.)
Grammar/Spelling: Spanish stuff from Fernandez Editores and Arco Iris
Science: Kinda sorta follow the MFW schedule, but take lots of rabbit trails, done in English and Spanish
Art/Music: I Can Do All Things, MFW
English: phonics from MFW 1, and Hooked on Phonics for review and fluency. She'll be reading her first chapter book (from HOP, level 1) by the end of this week, but wanted to start a Spanish chapter book first. So she's now reading Scooby Doo in Spanish (I know, twaddle).
Foreign language: a bit of Japanese and German...periodically
She's also in tap, modern, and ballet during the school year.
I'm in and out of this message board as I'm writing about homeschooling for our local area, moderating a local homeschool board, keeping up my blog, and try to keep up with three other Hispanic (although I'm not Hispanic)/Spanish/Spanish resource homeschooling groups. I'll try to be helpful when I can; most of my info is on Spanish-as-a-first language materials rather than as a second language, though.
Glad to back!
