The first years on the timeline I printed is 4100, 4050, 4000. What chapters would these go along with in SOTW. I think I could put the first nomads on 4100? We were also studying when Asians migrated to North America around the same time does anyone know where I should place this? I don't think I need to be extremely accurate with the dates since my dc are still young but I would like to put the in chronological order.
thanks!

In SOTW Vol I there is a note to Chapter 1 that the "Nomads roamed through the Fertile Cresent c. 6000 BC". However, I'm sure this is open to interpretation based on your beliefs of creation and how long that process took. Our belief is more in line of yours, and I start our timeline with the nomads placed in 4000 BC.

HTH!

Do you know the date for Jericho?

I agree with the dates found in The Story of the Ancient World by Christine Miller. She follows the Annals of the World by Ussher. Jericho fell in 1451 BC.

Here's a link to Miller's book:

It's a great family read aloud.

If you need some more dates this morning for your timeline, feel free to ask.

So it seems to me that even though Jericho is mentioned in Ch.1 of SOTW it doesn't follow the timeline of SOTW? I'm getting myself a little confused now.
Maybe I should just throw out the years on the timeline for now and just put things in chronological order?

I'm looking at the 1st edition of SOTW Vol I, and the story of Jericho is in Chapter 6. Chapter 5 has a note that the time is approximately 2335 BC, and chapter 7 has a note that the time is approximately 1780 BC. So these dates do not correspond to the dates found in The Story of the Ancient World by Miller which are the dates I consider to be accurate. In looking at SOTW Vol I, the chapters discussing Biblical accounts are not dated. I think that's on purpose because the dating is controversial.

Just as a side note, I don't do timelines with my boys until they hit the logic stage. They will see different dates in many books that they read. Since they are older we can discuss why there are different dates and talk about what dates we believe are more accurate and why.

We did a timeline for SoTW1 but even though I started numbering 3501 BC, (after one page for the fall and one page for the flood,) I didn't actually put anything in the book until 753BC (Rome founded).

I, too, was confused.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who's confused. I think if I do decide to continue on with the timeline, I will just leave the dates out for now. I want to use the timeline as a tool so my dc can actually see where things fall in history to help them better understand chronological order. I think if the dates confuse me they will confuse my dc!
