My rising 9th grader has the opportunity to take a "life science" co-op class this coming year. They will be using BJUP Life Science 7. Their group time will be primarily discussion and labs, not textbook time. Their textbook work will be done at home. They will also be studying the book "The History of Medicine".

I figure the discussion and lab will go a long way toward a lab credit (they will be doing dissections, etc) but I want to add some more at home to make sure we are getting a legitimate high school level biology lab. (But, yay, I don't have to dissect a frog on my kitchen counter!)

I am planning on having dd use a high school level biology text, although I may re-order some of the chapters to line up with the topics covered in the class. Should I use the BJUP Biology text, or would I be okay to choose something different? I had been planning to use Abeka for Biology.

What would be a good resource for adding some labs?

Also, what about that Biology 101 DVD in the Timberdoodle catalog? Would that make a good supplement to our year?

I really want to be sure that we're doing high school level biology, but there is no way I'm going to pass up an opportunity for dd to have hands on labs and discussion with a group.
