Hi there,
You do realize that your question could generate answers you may not have intended??
One of our favorite games for adults and for older children (say 12 and up) is the game Wise and Otherwise. Here's a link to some information and reviews:

Scattergories, Skip-Bo, Mille Borne, Uno, Trivial Pursuit, ummmm, those are the one's that come to mind. Of course, they can all be played by kids too.
Now, if you mean ADULT games, well, I guess I could name a few of those too....... :p

:D Scrabble, Blokus, Trivial Pursuit although we more often than not play w/ the older dc than by ourselves. No time. He's not a card-game type person while I am. Dd11 is a card-game person so we play together a bunch...Phase 10, Uno, Uno Attack, Ziggity (kids game, but fun!), etc.

Some current favorites are:
Party Games:
Wise and Otherwise
Trivial Pursuit
Karaoke Revolution on the XBox 360 (who knew singing was so fun?)
Strategy and board games:
Settlers of Catan
Thurn and Taxis
Pillars of the Earth
Blue Moon City
Arkham Horror (fun, if you like HP Lovecraft--plus, it's cooperative)
Two person games (for when the kids are asleep, but no other grownups are over):
Settlers of Catan card game
San Juan
A great resource is BoardGameGeek.com
You can just check out the "hot" games list on the left, click and read reviews, etc. You'll get a feel for the strategy/randomness of each one, complexity, and other important design features. Often the most popular games that have lasted (like Catan, for instance) are the best.

I didn't type board games because I'm open to card games too, so I just typed "games" innocently, not thinking of how others may read it. We often discuss kids games, but I was interested in board or card games that would be good for the "older crowd".

Card Games: Euhcre (not sure that is spelled right)
We play Mexican Train Dominos, Blokus, Mad Gab, Apples to Apples
Of course those can all be played with kids but it is fun to have "adult only" time with games
My little sister and her hubby play Settlers of Catan they say that is fun

If you like Rummy, then Rummikub is a good game that more than two can play. We also like Mexican Train Dominoes, Trivial Pursuit, Clue (some things are just classic!), Hearts, Spades, Poker, and a cool party game is Battle of the Sexes. Women vs. Men, the women get asked questions usually men would know (like sports, cars, etc.), and the men get asked questions usually women would know (movies, books, fashion, etc.). Lots of fun and usually hilarious!
