I don't want a "big" curriculum or writing program. But I DO need some guidance covering the different types of essays and teaching the reserach paper.

Basically, For the reserach paper, I mainly need : How to document/foot notes websites? and Do people still use "notecards" for a research paper?

My last research paper was done about 1982. LOL

What about Jensen's Format Writing? Is it short, to the point?

Basically, what makes a piece of writing an 'essay'? What are the basic formats of different types of essays?

Sorry, I 'm in quite a hurry... I probably need some instruction in writing a "good" post myself. LOL

I am using Teaching the Essay by the people who wrote AG right now with my 2 boys and it is not a bad way to learn the basics of an essay. the only thing my boys have not liked sofar is the first story we read. It was The Tell-Tale HEart by Edgar Allen Poe. They thought that it was a really "sick" story and wondered why they could not have picked a different story. Other than that we are doing fine with it.
I also purchased Teaching the Research Paper by the same people and we will use it this summer. Both of these together cost me $35,which I did not think was to bad of a price.
Hope this Helps.

Format Writing.......very systematic but was a good start for us for learning to write a 5 paragraph essay. Also I have 501 Writing Prompts which has been helpful for ideas to write on.

I also have The Lively Art of Writing, we haven't used it yet but it was cheap and I saw it recommended on these boards.

We use Abeka for grammar so I will probably use there format for the research paper.

All of these suggestions are at the lower price range if you are trying to save $$$ at the same time.
