View Full Version : If I plan on using CW in the future, what do I need to do now?

My oldest is just 6 now - so I've got some time, but I want to get a good grasp on what he needs to be doing now to prepare him for CW.
This time next year (approx 2nd grade.....if we are counting), I'd like to start him off in the CW Primers and then just keep going from there.
Right now, we are doing SWR and some copywork and narration (simple weeks 1-4 from WWE year1 type copywork and narration). I have the WWE textbook btw.
Any thoughts? How far should I try to get in WWE before moving over to the Primers? Should I be doing more grammar?
I made the mistake of looking at the Queen's Homeschooling website
:drool5::smash: .........:lol:
Would one of the Queen's Language Art books fit like a glove as a 1st grade before starting CW Primers?
Of course, I know the Primers aren't out yet - but I will take all opinions and educated guesses!:D

Paula,
I don't think you can go wrong working on dictation and narration. I doubt you need more grammar, as the Primmer will probably give you enough exposure to be familiar with the terminology, which is what I use FLL for.
Given there is only 18 weeks of Aesop A and 18 weeks of Aesop B I would plan to use those in 4th, use the primers in 3rd, and play with what ever you feel like until then. :D

Hmm...do most people do Aesop in 1yr? I hadn't thought of that.
My thought, at this moment, with rising 3rd graders is to continue WWE when we start Aesop. I want to stretch Aesop over 2 years to avoid starting Homer before 5th grade. So I'm going to do go back and forth between the two either weekly or every 9 weeks, something like that. I've used WWE this year for 2nd, but really like the look of the new primers as well. So with my next child I'll probably try and do the primers and then go into WWE in 3rd. I really think what the Primers cover is very close to what is covered in WWE 1 and 2, perhaps with a few extra things. One could easily add in what the other doesn't offer I'd think.

They say you should do Aesop A in 3rd and Aesop B in 4th, but...I don't know what I would do with the rest of the time. :001_huh: Actually towards the end I did do some of my own models with my oldest, and it isn't that tough, but I just find it easier to plan to do them both in the same year so I don't have to come up with filler. :D

Great idea! I think I might buy the Primers when they come out to evaluate where they fit. I like the idea of using both. Since Aesop A and B don't take a full year a piece, this sounds like a good solution.
You have to post about how it works out (combining Aesop and WWE) so I can glean your wisdom:D
