Do I want one? A local store has a three-compartment steamer on clearance. I've never had one and wonder if that would help me prepare healthier meals. What do you think?

I steam thing but I just use a steamer basket in a pot. It works great, it's cheap and it doesn't take up as much room as an additional appliance (I have a LOT of kitchen stuff).

Yes, I steam many vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower, corn, etc. I also like to steam shrimp and crab. The steamer is good for boiling eggs too; they don't crack and I find them easier to peel.

I have a steamer...I love it for shrimp & veggies as well. I guess it depends on if you are an appliance person. I am fortunate enough to have the space to put things w/o everything being on the countertop.

Really? Boiling eggs? Or do you mean just steaming them like the veggies? Do tell.

I just use a steamer basket also. It is nice to have.

Yes, really. I was surprised at first too, but DH, the engineer, actually read the instructions when we purchased our new steamer awhile back. We even have a special steamer bowl with slots for eggs. You steam them for 20 minutes and they come out hard boiled. It's very easy, and we hardly have any eggs crack. In addition, I think they are much easier to peel.

We have an electric steamer and a steamer insert for our pasta pot and both get a lot of use. Mostly veggies but also for making tamales ;)
