I am Shurley-tired, and have looked around a little. Can anyone that has used GWG tell me more about it? Is it like ABeka? Is there diagramming? I liked the look of the worksheets...which is one of my issues with Shurley...not enough practice. My other thought is to keep Shurley and add Daily Grams. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I've never used Abeka or Shurley, but we like GWG here. There is a two page instructional section to read and then a page front and back in 4 sections. The first two cover the new stuff and the second two review. My dd9 is able to do GWG3 on her own. She has questions maybe 3x a month. I check her work and go over mistakes right after she is done. Most mistakes are directly related to how distracting the 3yo is when she did it.

Do you find that she is retaining what she has learned?

GWG does have diagramming and it's is reviewed frequently. I've been impressed by how well my dd doing with diagramming with GWG! We like the program here!

My son greatly dislike GWG. I'm really not sure why. He loved FLL 3, but since it took so long for FLL 4 to come out, we ordered GWG 4. He could easily do the work; he just didn't like it. After FLL 4 came out, I ordered it. Now I have no idea what I'll use next year, but I'll probably just come up with my own program using a combination of free Google books and diagramming workbooks.

For the most part, yes. But she is also an expert at finding something new to "forget". If I correct her on something, she'll mostly get that right from then on, but forget something else that she previously knew.
