My ds is a grade ahead in the R&S English series. The thread about the Grade 7 text has gotten me thinking about taking a break from R&S next year and doing AG for a change of pace. I realize it suggests doing 1/3 of the book each year, but we are used to doing grammar all year, and I like the idea of doing this while our lit. discussion and writing assignments (we use IEW) are not all that involved just yet. DS will be in grade 6 next year. We will also be doing Volume 2 of Latin in the Christian Trivium. I guess I am wondering if we could do AG for grade 6 and then switch back to R&S for grade 7. We really like R&S and have had great success thus far, but I know it gets harder with that Level 7 book. Alternatively, we could spread the grade 7 book over 2 years. I would like to be able to do the AG grammar review exercises for high school, but I am not sure how well this works unless one has been through the actual AG program. Also, would it make sense to do AG and then return to the R&S grade 7 text?
Help me figure out a plan!

AG was written by a teacher who pulled that grammar curriculum together for 8th grade. I think 8th grade is the ideal time to do it if you want to do it in a year. JMHO.

You might want to ask over on the high school board. I've read of people doing it in a year, but it was generally 8th grade or up.
