Our 7 yo will "graduate" from OT in 2 weeks. Her core strength and handwriting have improved greatly in only 6 months of therapy. However, her attention has not improved, so it's become apparent that her lack of focus is wholly related to her ADHD, not SPD. She is willing to do her schoolwork; she wants to learn; but based on what comes out of her mouth, her brain is like a pinball machine. I need to make a dr's appt to discuss medication and I don't want to do it. However, she's almost 8 years old and still struggling with CVC words; she's not writing other than small amounts of copywork; and there is evidence that ADHD medication does help kids who have LDs along with ADHD. Trying medication seems like the logical choice at this point, but I still keep hoping that things will click for her without it. To make matters worse, she is tall and extremely thin - she only weighs about 42 lbs, so she can't afford to lose weight.

I am just glad she wasn't my first child, because if she was, I'm sure I would think I totally screwed her up by homeschooling.

ETA: Thanks to all of you who have shared how much medication helped your children. Your stories have helped me work through this process.
