I will have a 3rd and 5th grader this fall and we will be starting SOTW ancients over again. I plan on having my 3rd grader do a little extra reading, but mainly just stick to the activity guide's map work and narrations.

So, would you suggest doing the narrations with my 5th grader since I'm doing them with my 3rd grader? Or do you think this would be too easy for him at this stage of the game. We will be using CW Homer, so I do have other writing curriculum for him. He will also be doing summaries for science. Part of me thinks it would just be good practice to keep doing the narrations.

If you've walked this path before me, what did you do?

Forgot to add that I am ramping this up for my 5th grader-he'll be doing more reading, some reports, etc.

We are nearly finished with ancients (2nd & 5th graders). My 5th grader is currently writing a narration from one topic of my choice per SOTW chapter. We are doing 2 chapters a week right now to finish ancients by June.

If you don't want to do written history narrations due to your child's other writing assignments, what about outlining a section of SOTW?

I think you could do this either orally or in writing. Since you have plenty of other writing in your day, if you think this would be a burden, then why not keep doing it orally?
