Books about about Vikings and Leif Erickson, or Erik the Red

I'm trying to put some lesson plans together for our American History studies. We will be done studying Native Americans in a few weeks then we will start our studies of American History. I would like to start off with the Vikings and the discovery of Greenland. I'm looking for books for read alouds, readers at a 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade reading level and fiction books.

My kids enjoyed D'Aulaire's Leif the Lucky. They LOVED Viking Tales (http://www.mainlesson.com/display.php?author=hall&book=viking&story=_contents) by Jennie Hall. FYI, only the second half deals with Eric and Leif; the first half is about Harald Fairhair. GREAT book. :001_smile:

ETA: I read this aloud, as neither of my kids is a reader. My littles are 6 and 4, if that helps.

I second Viking Tales and we read a book called Raiders From the Sea, which my boys loved. It does have a strong Christian content.

I second Leif the Lucky by D'Aulaire. We also used Eric the Red and Leif the Lucky by Barbara Schiller this year with SL 2. Digging for the Truth has a segment on Vikings that was really fun to watch after we did our reading. I've seen it at our library and on Netflix.
