I am trying to find a new LA program for my kids. We have been using Rod & Staff, but I want to start my younger children with more of a CM approach, and move my older girls this direction too, if possible. I have heard alot of terms on this board, but what would you suggest. I'm at a loss as to where to start looking. I will have a 1st, 4th (with very little grammar done), 7th & 8th graders. I also want to put a big focus on creative writing with my older 2 girls. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much

:iagree:
with Queen's. These books are great and have wonderful creative writing for the ages of your older children.
Also Spelling Wisdom from www.simplycharlottemason.com (http://www.simplycharlottemason.com) is excellent.
We use both and do Simply Grammar (amazon) once a year over the summer for kids 9+.
Don't forget to have the kids narrate everyday. :001_smile:

Queen Homeschool is known for their Language Lessons series. They also carry CM Easy Packs. You can look at these and get some ideas for a total LA.

Do you use anything else with Queens? Or does it pretty much cover everything? I'm still learning about the CM style. Trying to break the "textbook" mold I grew up in.

I think it really comes down to what your family is looking for in terms of grammar. For instance, a family that loves R and S probably would not find this appealing at all. On the other hand a very laid back CMer would no doubt be fine with Queens. Over the years I have used a variety of grammer, but have always implemented some from of copywork. HTH

I am on a search for the same thing. :) In addition to the ones listed above, here are a couple more that other homeschoolers online have pointed out to me.
These are by Shoelace Books: They are called Simply Language Arts

Here are some for the younger children. These look interesting because they are based on the seasons.

Good luck with your search. Enjoy your new CM approach.

:iagree: Primary Language Lessons is for gr 2 & 3, and Intermediate Language Lessons is for gr 4-6. These books are great! There's not much formal grammar, but my dd (5th gr) has enjoyed the composition assignments and she hates to write. I think the subject matter of the composition assignments are much better than in most writing programs. Plus there are many narration style activities, copywork, and dictation giving it a nice CM flavor.
