My 16 yo want to do this. I can't see any reason why not, but I thought I'd ask here to see if there's anything I should be thinking about and am not.

Do you mean prepare their own transcript, as in create the copy on the computer? If so, I'd be thrilled to let my dc do that...of course, when completed, you can double-check to make sure everything is correct and all the needed information is supplied.

Yes. He takes most of his classes at community college. His own choices with a few suggestions from me. It just feels odd for him to be preparing his own transcript. Will colleges look down on that?

A very motivated kid! Don't we all wish we had kids like this? I say let him do it and you have the end say in the editing process.

As school counselor, you will need to sign the transcript. After all, it is the document that provides "verification" of all the work that he has done in high school. This means that while he may design the transcript and enter everything in, you need to sign the transcript. Ultimately, you need to agree with everything on the transcript.

I don't see that it makes any difference who puts the transcript together.

If you are saying that your son will prepare and then sign his own transcript as school supervisor/principle/counselor, I would call a college and ask what it would think of that. Having a student sign his own transcript seems odd to me.

How will they know who prepared it? It's simply a document that you send to them; there is no way to know who prepared it as far as I can tell.

I prepare all my dc's transcripts, but they are right there with me helping and giving me their input, so I guess it's more of a joint effort :001_smile: I'd be very happy if one of them had asked to take over the job. Sure! Let him do it.

But I agree that as your dc's teacher/school administrator/counselor you will need to verify that all the information is correct and sign it. A student does not sign their own transcript. It is a document between school officials; from your school officials to their school officials.

There are different styles of transcripts from the more traditional to others that are more narrative in style. (There is an example of the latter in the files section of the Yahoo hs2coll group here (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hs2coll/files/). You do need to join the group to access the files.)

If you and your son are doing a more traditional transcript then I think those who said it doesn't matter who created it are correct. However, if your son is interested in providing a narrative transcript of his experiences then I think it could portray him in a very positive light.

Go right ahead! There are a lot of choices as to style and presentation so it could be a fun project for him. Just make sure he includes all the information you deem necessary.
