Writing Tales 1 - do I NEED the TM?

Those of you that have used WT, is the TM necessary for level 1, or could I get along without it?

The TM is absolutely necessary for the Writing Tales books (1 and 2). Without the TG, you miss important points, and the TG is what tells you when to do your writing and revisions. An absolute must.
