My son has worked alone through Greek (Mounce). He wishes he had stuck with Latin. I have not kept up with how he was doing and just discovered how far along he is. He has been doing everything in the workbook. He can get through half of it if he works a little this summer. I thought he needed to get through the entire book this year to get 1 credit, but looking around I think this is a 2 semester course in colleges. Would that mean I could give him a high school one year credit for half of it? Should I give him a full credit and title it Introductory Greek or Greek 1 or only give him half a credit? What would you do?
Thanks,
Kendall

I would give 1 high school credit (NT Greek 1) for half the book, like you said. If you want him to speed it up how about skipping the "additional" translations? Otherwise it sounds like he's doing fine.

He did mention that it might be going slowly because he is doing all of the additional exercises, so I think I'll have him skip those for the remaining 4 chapters so he can get the first half of the book finished and call it NT Greek 1.
Thank you so much!!

We've done a bit of Greek here and plan to move to Mounce next year, so I'm very curious about how it has gone. My son will definitely be working through it on his own!!!!! Oh, and generally, one semester of a college class is one YEAR of high school credit. If Mounce is generally two college semesters, it could be put on a transcript as two years of high school credit.

Give him a whole credit for the book. I have looked into college Greek and I can verify that it is a two semester text.

He is 17 and did Henle Latin 1 and 2 prior to this year. He said it is slow and takes him a long time to translate, but is going okay. I think that it would have helped him mentally if I had figured out at the beginning of the year that doing half the book was more the expected pace. He likes that he is translating passages from the Bible.

I took New Testament Greek in college using the Mounce text (it's still buried somewhere in my old room at my parents' house and I want it back now). It was a two semester course. BTW, I've often thought it would be a great homeschooling text for Greek because when I took Greek in college, the professor just went through the lesson in the text almost word for word. I really didn't need to go to class. The book is totally self-teaching.
