My dd6 will attend a Christian school next year for one day a week. On this day they offer classes to homeschooled students. She will take Science, History, Art and music. For history they do the four year rotation of SOTW. She did not take history there this year (Kinder) but we will have completed the SOTW Ancients. This means that she will miss the second volume this go around. I hope to read some books this summer on that time period. My concern is this...the third volume of SOTW says it is written for a higher level (3-5 or something like that). Has anyone had experience using SOTW Three with a first grader? Her class will be with K-2nd graders and I am sure they will make it appropriate. I just wander if she will be able to follow along with the readings. BTDT people please chime in!

the material in SOTW 3 is notably more complex and longer than the other 2. The chapters are much longer. My ds5 wanders off a lot of times. He does listen to the CDs in the car.

Maybe you could ask the teacher how they plan to present the material?

I would supplement the class with SOTW Vol III cd at home. My guess it that they will skip some of the chapters and take a slow approach to the material they do cover for such a young group. I would ask the teacher if she has a syllabus for the chapters that will be studied during the year. I think its doable; just remember that you're building pegs to hang more information on later.
