View Full Version : What are my options after Phonics Pathways?
I have a child who is about to complete PP and a couple other phonetic workbooks. I would like to continue phonics instruction with her. What are my options? Please include workbook options because she does benefit from them.
Thanks.

We really like Adventures in Phonics. WE ordered thru Winter Promise, but you can find them almost anywhere.
Dd7 is in C right now, and is learning the rules re: suffixes. It's actually helping her spell really well.
I'd say, tho, that beyond AiP, we just let her read. PP goes so far, your child is probably reading on a, what, 4th grade level? The more she reads, the more she will absorb phonics. Tie the rules to her spelling, and she'll be fine, I suspect.
Maybe I should start a new post asking for phonetic materials for 4th-5th graders because my dd is 10 and I really do want to continue with further phonetic instruction. She struggled quite a bit in the beginning and is just now catching up. I haven't tested her to see if she is "officially" reading at a 4th grade level, but my previous child was a much stronger reader at her age. I want to make sure this child keeps moving forward.

- Explode the Code (book levels 3 thru 5 only): Ds did it intermittently from K-2nd or 3rd.
- R&S Phonics 2 (units 2-5 only): Dd has done only pages as I've assigned them, according to need.
- MCP's Plaid Phonics C: I also assign these pages as needed for dd8, mostly to reinforce things like making words plurals, suffixes, etc.
I think I like the set-up of ETC slightly more than the others. R&S seems to go pretty quickly from one concept to the next. ETC stays on one phonogram or suffix for several days (the way we did it, anyway).
HTH!

maybe All about spelling? I think it is wonderful for teaching phonics and spelling in a gentle way as a follow up!
