My child has PDD-NOS. I've heard about DAN doctors, and recently discovered that there is one nearby. Does anyone here have any experience with DAN physicians? Good, Bad, and otherwise? Should I take my child to one?

when my son was first diagnosed. If you are interested in trying any biomedical approaches to treating your child's autistic spectrum issues, it is a good thing to do. Ours was covered by our insurance and we did a full spectrum of tests and had wonderful success with some interventions. I do not think my son would be a normal functioning child on a college prep track today if we hadn't done it. Feel free to pm me if you want more information.

We've seen both good and bad DAN doctors. There are plenty of both out there, so I would try to find out from other parents what experiences they have had with the DAN near you. Even if you have a good doctor, my advice is to start doing research yourself. The more educated you are, the more your doctor can help you. A few good places to start are the Generation Rescue (http://www.generationrescue.org/) website and yahoo groups (here is one of my favorites: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/abmd/).

We saw a fantastic DAN! dr in Toronto when I lived there. She helped my son quite a bit, especially with the mucous stools. We could never pull all gluten, and we moved, so we stopped seeing her. But our experience was great.

Do be sure that they truly did have DAN! training, from the Defeat Autism Now! organization... here's a list of registered DAN! doctors from the actual DAN! site http://www.defeatautismnow.com/

I would recommend getting blood/urine samples sent to Great Plains Lab. ABSOLUTELY amazing charts and graphs come back with so much data so you could have a great baseline to follow up with. http://www.greatplainslaboratory.com/ ahhh the link isn't working right now, but maybe later... anyone with kids on the spectrum I would totally encourage them to do the tests, they're very revealing!
