View Full Version : I've never paid attention before. What do y'all tip your hair stylist?

Is that even what they're called? Hair dresser? I'm so uncool :o.

For the first time since...uh....hmmm....1991?, I'm going some place other than GreatClips/Supercuts/CostCutters for a haircut. He charges $25 for a haircut. He just left the shop where he used to work and opened his own shop in his home, if that matters.

What should I tip?

I really like my stylist and I tip her 20%, sometimes more is she is changing my style or giving me color.

For a $25 haircut, I would say $5 would be sufficient.

Piggy-backing your OP--- Is there a different tipping rule for shop owners vs. the stylists who are employed by him?

because I really like her....I think the last time I went (my daughter and I)....I tipped 18.00 on a bill of 32.00. I don't get my hair cut as often as I should.....so I guess I make up for it in tips, LOL!

I do 20%. She does our whole family. She has for a long time. And I know her home situation is tough money wise, so I usually do more even.

I always tip 20% b/c my stylist is fabulous! She owns the shop, but I don't think here anyone follows that rule. She happily takes it, and I always get a fabulous, trendy cut!

because I took cosmetology. (wasn't for me). Anyway, I tip well because I know what it's like. I probably tip more like 20% as well.
