View Full Version : how do you decide price?

Maybe this is explained somewhere but I didn't see it!

I try to offer what I would like to pay for something -- usually around half the original price plus shipping costs. Does this sound fair?

I was thinking that would be fair. I've never sold here-but when I sell at curriculum fairs that's what I get.

I check Amazon and place like Fetchbook.info to see what the going rate is. Some curriculum really holds its value, but some are worth much less than half off, so that's what I usually charge.

I check various boards to see what people are selling similar items for. I also take into account the condition, although I try to keep my things in good condition. If items have higher demand, they tend to hold prices better. I once spent quite a bit of money on a curriculum that I bought with a coupon for less than regular price. A year later I realized this wasn't going to work well for my daughter and I discovered that the company was now selling the same curriculum much cheaper which further reduced the price on my new set.

:iagree:

If it something that is pretty common and easy to find, I start with half of retail and go up or down depending on the condition. I usually check Rainbow Resource to see if they have it, and use that instead of the publisher's price for a base price, as they would have it a lot cheaper. Does that make sense?

If it is something that's harder to find, I search the web to see how much it is selling for in other places, like amazon or ebay, and base my price on those prices.

I almost always price mine based on what similar items are fetching on e-bay - then lower the price a little since I don't need to pay e-bay's fees... I'd love to give people a deal, but the fact is... I need $$ from what I sell to buy what I'm using next year... so, I sell for 'market price' and e-bay sets that (used) market for me.

I have done a loan/trade before, but never again. When I got mine back there was writing all over in the answer key. Now I sell or keep.
