I have looked at Lightening Lit by Hewitt HS, and it looks pretty good- grade 7. It deals with the stages of a book - plot analysis, climax, etc. and does it book by book in 3 -4 week sections. This is what I am looking for. This would cost about $50. Is there any other similar curriculum that is not quite as expensive?
We haven't done much on this topic, so I am looking for something very basic.
Thanks.

A Garlic Press guide (http://www.garlicpress.com/cgi-bin/shop_gp.cgi?product=LITERATURE) might fit the bill for you. A three pack (covering three complete novels) is $25.00, or they're $9-$11 each.

My ds, however, did not. I felt like it was a super course, but my ds did not care for the workbook aspect of it.

You could use Teaching the Classics for about $25. BJU rents out the DVD's for free, so all you would need is the manual. It's WONDERFUL and you could use it with whatever books you wanted.

One possiblity I'm seriously considering is alternating CLE with Glencoe guide available at the Glencoe lit library online
http://www.glencoe.com/sec/literature/litlibrary/
They are free for the printing, and have many titles that would be suitable for a 6th grader. I personally think they are very well done. CLE very nicely and systematically covers all the analysis with their reader (which is pretty good, btw), and the lit guides would teach and reinforce it with real books.
