View Full Version : Braces for me? This is the last thing I was expecting.

I have to get braces Thursday because my teeth are crowded, I grind them at night and my bottom teeth are "wearing." The braces are to separate them so they can go in and build them up.

My dd has just started them and now, me!! At least we all had a great laugh over it. I guess I will have to wait a while on the new used car I was hoping for.

Can anyone commiserate with me?

I'll be getting them next month. I had the consultation back in October, but have been waiting for the $$. I couldn't believe how much they cost. I had braces as a teen, but very bad me didn't wear my retainer so my overbite is back, and they are crowding again. But the main reason I'm doing braces again is because I get shooting pain where I'm having the most crowding. Oldest DS will probably be getting his on before mine come off.

My oldest ds asked if they were made of wood way back then. LOL. I told him yes and we rode dinosaurs to the office visits.

At least we can have a little humor. What was depressing is that my orthodontist said we need to fix them for the next 30 or so years as he is the same age as me. I guess I'm not a spring chicken anymore.

We have a really cool office with Playstations so the kiddos want to know if they can go play while I'm in the chair. LOL I get no respect.

I had them, not as a child, but when I was 42. Got them off when I was 45. :)

I don't feel so alone.

I had braces in my early 30s because I'd never had them as a child. The orthodontist originally told me I would need to have them for 18 months but I actually only had them about 13 months. I was very careful to wear whatever rubber bands and such they told me to wear.

I had them at a young age and my bottom teeth were still not straight when they took them off... My dh had them for two years and got them off the same month my dd had them put on :) Now my ds will be getting them on in March... Talk about expensive!

Doesn't seem quit fair. However, she doesn't homeschool and my family couldn't fit in one anyway.
