I am interested in it for a 4th grader and a 7th grader. I want to cover the literature aspect of things, but I will be continuing with Shurley English for grammar. Therefore, I do not have time to actually teach it. Should I just forget it? or could it work on an independent basis, with me just overseeing it??? Thanks for your thoughts on the subject!

Also, would dictation be too much if you haven't ever done it???

My dd12 works independently through the Green book except when she has questions or we do the dictation. The dictation isn't really tough, but I have her copy the passage at the beginning of the week, study it T, W and Th and then do the dictation on Friday and have her correct it. My ds10 works pretty independently through the Purple book (except for dictation and questions) and my ds9 works ind. through the Yellow book too (except for spelling tests, questions, etc.). I just go over the pages when they are done.

Absolutely! I have four dc using LLATL and they all work independently except for the dictation and spelling test (which, of course, is really difficult to do independently :tongue_smilie:) but that is only once or twice a week. Even my 3rd grader is able to do a lot on her own just asking me when she has a question. It is written to the student.
