Teaching Geography Through Art
By Visual Manna’s Sharon Jeffus, Richard Jeffus and Cindy Wiggers
In excellent condition. $14 ppd
Rich and Sharon Jeffus (authors of Visual Manna, etc.) see the world through art. Cindy Wiggers (author of The Ultimate Geography and Timeline Guide, etc.) sees the world through the eyes of a geographer. The two parties have collaborated in the creation of this book. The book is divided by continent. A map and fact page begins each chapter, showing basic geographical information for the continent. Then, a variety of art information and projects are provided. Subject matter for each continent includes architecture, animals, works of art, and cultural artifacts. Information includes textual information, photographs, drawings, artistic techniques, and related web site addresses. The Jeffuses believe in hands-on learning, so a wide variety of projects relating to that continent using many different art media are suggested. If you like an artistic approach to geography, or a cultural approach to art, this book’s for you.
Customer Review
Teaching Geography Through Art is one of the best resources I have used in my seven years homeschooling. This year it is the core of my geography and art curriculums for my 4th, 6th, and 10th grade children. What a time saver! The spiral bound 139 page book is printed in black and white, making photocopying easy and economical, and the dozens of art lessons are easily adaptable to all skill levels. Even my 11-year-old son, who usually cringes at art projects, is enjoying this book. The only additional materials we are using are an atlas, an almanac, and easily obtainable art supplies. If you're looking for a way to make geography more exciting, this book fills that need. In fact, I plan on using another book in the series, Teaching American History Through Art, next year!
