We have used the Spelling Workout up to level D and have done OK without
the Teacher's Manual.

I am planning for next year. Do you think I will need the Teacher's manual for level E (for answers)?

Thanks for your thoughts!

When we had planned to use SWO, I did buy the TM because I like to have other suggestions to go from as well as answers (makes it easier for me to grade). I am not sure if it is necessary or not.

I actually have this for sale right now too. ;)

Some of the exercises involve more the spelling and are more than I can get at first glance.

I have not used SWO in several yrs, but I think it depends on which edition you are using. Rainbow Resources mentions in their description that with the 2001 edition the TM is necessary. The following is from their website.

This updated version is very similar in content to the older edition. The most noticeable differences are a more contemporary page layout and a reduction in sports-themed headings like "warm-ups" and "pep talks". Other differences include an extra writing activity at the end of each lesson in the student book, but the removal of references to warm-ups, final tests, and bonus words activities. All information and instruction on these activities are now found only in the teacher’s manual. While you can still "get by" uisng the program without the teacher’s manual, you may want the teacher’s manual to get the most out of the program. Some content has been updated as well, including several new reading/editing passages and a few new word lists. Aside from these differences most of the pages (while they may not match up exactly in page number) look very much the same. The size/length of the books have not changed. Basically, if you’re trying to decide between the editions in your own homeschool, you won’t lose out either way. However, if you are using Spelling Workout in a group/class/co-op situation, you will probably want to pick one edition and stick with it to ensure uniformity of word lists, and for ease of checking work

As I said, I haven't seen SWO in several yrs so I really can't say whether it's absolutely necessary or not but thought I'd pass this on.

The only reason I bought the TM's for level C and above is because I got them used for $5 each, otherwise I think I would have continued to use the student books only without the TM

Thanks!
So, 1 yes, 1 no, and 1 maybe.
Any others? :D

I vote yes at that level just because I didn't want to make up my own sentences for the spelling test!

I started using the TM at level E and above. I could figure out the answers, but it saved time to have the TM.

I vote "no." We're finishing up level F this year. Once or twice in all that time I've wondered what the TM said. I had thought with level F I would buy the TM but a friend gave us the student book for free and I never got around to it. To date, I have no need for it. Perhaps with the next two levels?

Blessings.

We're in the first chapters of F and have found no need for a TM at any point along the way.
