My dd is plodding through ETC, doesn't really like it at all, and she struggled thru 100EZL, and she can sort of read, but not very good. I think she knows more than she thinks she does and is talking herself into self-defeat....we're working through an American Girl book together and sometimes she is reading it pretty well, and other times can't read 'the'.....it's driving me nuts.

But she loves puzzles - word search, cryptograms, those kinds with the numbers under each blank and you have to find the matching letter for that number.....she loves that stuff.

So I was thinking to try and find more games/puzzles stuff to do with her this summer to help her really get up to speed on her reading, and to make it fun for her. Every day she says 'I hate reading, it's too hard'....which isn't helping things.

An online resource that we are enjoying very much is www.spellingcity.com.

It has a variety of games, you can type in your own lists of words for your daughter to practice with or use lists already on the site, and it is free. You can also print out handwriting worksheets if you want, and have your daughter test on the words she's been working with.

Hope that helps,
