View Full Version : Do you always check back on threads you have posted on?

Sometimes someone will post something that I have a question on and I wonder if they will ever check back. If I really want the question answered I privately email them, but I was just curious. I hardly ever do.:) Unless, I am looking for more information about the thread topic then I follow it through.

Most of the time, yes. Esp. if I said something that might be controversial. I want to see if anyone else responded to what I said. Sometimes the OP will ask a question of someone based on what they posted too.

I try, but 90% of the time I can't find it when I come back. Unless it is a hot thread, it gets buried and I'm lost. :0(

I try to remember, but sometimes I even forget to go back to my own threads! If you click on User CP up on the left-hand side there, you can see all the threads you've posted on, sorted by most current first (as in, the one that's had the most recent response, not necessarily yours). Sometimes when I check in here, I just go straight there and then log off so I'm not tempted to hang around all day!

to automatically add threads containing your posts to your "subscribed threads."

Click "user control panel", and scroll down to "edit options."

I check my "subscribed threads" (Click "quick links" / scroll down to "subscribed threads") rather than trying to keep track of threads I've posted in; when the threads in my subscribed threads are no longer active, I file them, using the "file folders" option, or delete them.

I'm most conscientious when it comes to people asking for advice about home education. I'm less careful when it comes to general topics.

in my "subscribed threads" (click on "quick links" than scroll down to "subscribed threads".) I can't remember if I had to do something to set it up this way, or if this is the way the board is structured

It's an option:

Go to User Control Panel
Select "Edit Options" (under settings and options on the left side of the screen)
Under Messaging & Notification, there's "default thread subscription mode"
you can choose 'don't subscribe' 'no email notification' and then instant, daily, or weekly notification.

(You can also (under thread display options) choose a number of posts to be displayed per page (up to 50). {Thanks, Toni for pointing that out the other week!}

Go to [search] then [advanced search] then type my name into the user name. It pulls up all threads I have posted within.

I usually know what page I posted on, so I just look past that.

Every time I leave a board, I click "Mark this Forum Read" (under the Forum Tools tab). While I'm gone, new threads, and old threads with new posts, will move to the top of the board and appear in bold print. When I come back, I only scan the bold print threads. That allows me to catch any new posts to old threads, along with seeing new threads.

So, yes, I do look at threads I've posted to, but only if I know someone else has posted after me.

If it's a thread with some info that I want to revisit, or one that has asked for some input on a topic in which I'm also interested, then I use the "subscribe to this thread" feature.

I try to, when I can find it again. I use the 'subscribe to this thread feature' when I remember also.

I try to but sometimes the thread gets so long. I always reply back to pm though.:)

the threaded part of the page (at the top) when I choose hybrid mode. *sigh* It's supposed to help find specific posts but I can't scroll through that part half the time! Makes finding a place in a thread really tough and I don't have the time/motivation to try and keep up many times. THEN, I feel like I'm posting and running and don't want to be a bad conversationalist. LOL
