View Full Version : Quick! Recipe help needed re: sugar

Ds and I are making a choc. cake. Just when I went to get the sugar, I saw I didn't have enough. I need 2 cups. I have 1.5 cups. Can I use brown sugar for the other 1/2 cup do you think? Or will that change the taste? I'm assuming powdered sugar wouldn't work well being baked.

I think it would change the taste slightly, but I'd use it. In a chocolate cake, it might even work really well!

I think it should be okay. According to Alton Brown brown sugar adds moisture which I think would be good for a cake. Since you are only adding a little bit hopefully it would not make much of a difference.

I went ahead and used 1/2 c. of brown sugar. We will see how it turns out. Thanks for the help!
