Can anyone give some suggestions for a stand alone Literature program for 9th grade. I am considering Abeka. Any ideas, pros or cons would be appreciated. thanks, michelle

I recently looked at Abeka's program for 9th; and I really did like the curriculum guide and such. But it coordinated all the language arts -- grammar, vocab, literature, writing, etc.

The literature book looks nice (we like textbooks). I've used 4th, 5th, and 7th grade Abeka lit and enjoyed it. My daughter is math and science oriented, so we appreciate a more streamlined literature approach. My younger daughter, who is more interested in the humanities, will probably use something different.

I think it really depends on what you're looking for, but if it's a basic, well-rounded, non-frills program, I think you'd like it.

We are hoping to use Literary Lessons from Lord of the Rings for 9th grade (although we may end up doing a co-op lit class instead). It is self-contained and doesn't require a lot of different resources, but yet it is a little more creative than a textbook.

I'm not by any means an expert, but I noticed you hadn't received any responses yet, so I thought I would chime in with what little knowledge I can share! HTH.

Excellence in Literature is a great program:

Also, SMARR Literature is very good:

And then there is Lightning Literature and Composition:

These are ones I like, along with Learning Language Arts Through Literature

This looks great! Is it secular? I can't tell from the website.

If you're looking for a secular program, you might wish to consider Mosdos Press. See here (http://www.mosdospress.com/) for more information.

I agree that is looks great, but I really don't know if it's secular or not. You can email the author and ask. She got back with me about a publication date for Vol. 5 very quickly.
