Please recommend church history & missions bios for Jr High

Hi all,

I need help! I would like recommendations for Jr high (7-9) level resources for Church History (events, people, and trends) and a compilation of short, article length Missionary Bios, for 1700 - now.

One or two books at most, as this will be for a small class, and I can't ask parents to buy a gazillion books.

We'll basically be using SOTW 3 & 4 (for the wonderful detail and the joy of it!) plus a history spine (overview), the church history/mission component (selected readings), plus lit, along with light map and timeline work.

I am not sure if this is what you ar looking for, but you might look at the History Lives series by Mindy Withrow. We are enjoying them at our house.

I was going to suggest the Mindy Withrow series as well.

There are also the "Hero Tales" books. I think they're written for a younger age group.

Sketches from Church History comes to mind as something that would work for you. It is also available online...so parents could print it off. Trial and Triumph and From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya are also fantastic as far as short article length chapters...with both missionary bio and church history. Both are very readily available. Ableside Online also suggests another title which I can't remember...but it is also available online.

I also agree about the Hero Tales. I used these in MFW with a 3rd grader, but if you don't have a lot of time, they might work for older kids, too.

We did a "book club" in our co-op and had all the kids read a YWAM missionary biography, and did activities and watched a movie in class.

I would also add my recommendation for Sketches from Church History and Trials and Triumph. These two titles dove-tail well and are very appropriate for the junior high years.

I used From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya with my kids when they were in 8th and 10th grade and we really enjoyed it.
