So we are sitting at the table talking about myths like Bigfoot and maybe aliens. My 5dd says "well, wouldn't we all be aliens too since we are in outerspace?" Interesting point of view...Of course this launched a discussion about the word alien (human focused) and then a discussion of the possibility of other life, then more discussion of evolution, adaption to space and then my college student saying she would like to go into space. Please share your children's provoking thoughts.
Hehe. DS was disappointed to learn that aliens as conventionally portrayed are made up. He's declared that all cool things are either extinct or invented.
Too cute!
We've had similar discussions of the word alien meaning other or outside.
He has yet to appreciate word meanings.

My dc were rather intrigued when I told them I used to be an alien in this country.
My dc do bring up interesting things like that, but I have a tendency to forget them. I was so much like that, that I tend to take it for granted. I shouldn't, but I do.

My dd's comment had nothing to do with aliens.... but it was certainly thought provoking. We were driving into the last of the sunset when the clouds were gathering and she said "Oooh, look at the sky! It looks like the night is reaching out to grab the day and pull it back into total darkness!" She then began to compose a whole poem centered on that thought.

I'll bet if you'd told them you were an alien from Jupiter, they would have thought it was even cooler! (Well, at least my ds would have!) ;)

Wow, that's really something! How old was she when she said it?
I wouldn't have thought of anything like that -- I would have probably come up with something earthshaking like, "Looks like it's going to rain. Did I leave the bathroom window open?"
Your dd sounds very creative -- you must be very proud of her!
