I just got my box of supplies!!!

I have a question, though. Since the dyes are not food-safe, is there any reason I couldn't melt crayons and do this on the outside of hard-boiled Easter eggs for our hunt? I would use food coloring along with the crayons. Or would this just not work. at. all? If it wouldn't, why not?

For anyone wondering...

I just called the Ukrainian Gift shop where I ordered my stuff and they said not to use crayon wax in the kistka, but that beeswax/food coloring would be fine if you are concerned about using the acid dyes with young children.
