What is the age of the average public school 5th grader?

We will soon be visiting friends and attending a their church, and there probably won't be a Sunday school class labeled "4th grade in math 6th grade in history who knows what in Latin" :D

A fifth grader will turn 11 anywhere from July 1 (before the school year starts) to June 30. Some states have the cut-off later, anywhere from August to October.

So, yeah, 10 or 11. :)

Here in NY, a fifth grader would have turned ten on or before December 1st of his fifth grade year.

Actually, in my part of Missouri, its 10 by August 1st to start fifth grade. I still have a dd in ps, but right now it looks like she will come home for fifth grade next year. :001_smile:

Ds will be 10 until August 18th. He is considered a 5th grader in PA. :)

Here a 5th grader would have to turn 10 by Sept. 1st, which is also about the time school starts here. (School in August is wrooong! :tongue_smilie: Well, brick-and mortar school anyway, we homeschool pretty much year-round. :D)

My middle child is in public school (g. 5) this year. He will turn 11 in a few weeks. Some of his classmates are already 11.
