I'm interested in the Colonial Life series and the American Revolution. Would this be too much for a 7 year old ds?

So I buy the CD for about $30 and just print everything out myself? or is there a printed version that I can purchase already?

Thank you

I have this but haven't used it--I'll be printing off what I want.
You can buy it all printed out, too.

It comes with text to read--good, fairly rich text that can be used in place of a spine. There's a good schedule, with activities, notebooking and lapbooking all included. I really like it!

I'll use it to supplement SOTW 3. I'm using the Explorer one to set the stage for SOTW 3, also. I particularly like the way the lapbook parts are really integrated with the text. So, we'll read the text off the computer (I don't feel the need to print this), and pick a couple of activities--one lapbook book, and one activity for each day. I plan on doing 3 or even 4 days a week. It will be more time than I usually take for history, but I'm fine with that for a month. On Fridays, you have a catch up day, and you can cook something from the culture that you've just touched on (this is for Explorer's--not sure about the colonial one because it's not in front of me).

I think it's quite solid and looks like fun to boot.

We're in the middle of doing the explorer one right now...I'm doing it with an almost 8 yo and a 6 yo. I'm not super diligent about updating, but there is some stuff in my blog about what we've done and some pictures of the projects.

I think you can buy it pre-printed but I only bought the cd and printed it all myself. It takes a lot of work at first, but if you get a binder and just take a weekend and print everything and put them in a binder, then when it comes to lesson time, it's a lot easier to take your individual sheets you need and copy and use them.

My kids are really liking it. But it is a lot for that age. I would probably still do it again for their ages just b/c it's such a cool program and I love it :D and they are liking it, but I think it will be a lot better when we hit this cycle again in 3 years. There is just a lot of writing, and a lot of small writing, which I end up doing. There are some projects we just aren't doing, and I skipped the newspaper and writing log that the Explorers has.....I don't know the specific details of the other ones. We've also not really done any of the cooking projects just b/c of time issues.

But the projects that we have done are so so so cool. And it is really nice having all of the information right there to just read. I am combining it with SOTW 2 and 3, and library books and other activity books, but it is really cool.

I would do it with a 7 yo - and next year I hope to do the Colonial one and the Revolution one. Just know that it really is jam-packed with information and activities and even if you only do half of it, they will love it and still be getting to do so much.

And I'm very excited for the "Industrial Revolution to Great Depression" activity set to come out sometime next year - it's hard to find all-in-one projects to do for that time period.

We're currently doing the Art History lap book from the same company and it's awesome! I concur with the previous post - print everything out at once and then it's all ready to go when you need it. Very fun and educational!
