I would love to see a sample of the TM for VP history. I am looking in particular at 1815-Modern. Would someone tell me what is included? Do they schedule readers, read-alouds, projects??

I just have no idea what's in there!!!!

Thanks!

Just got a TM yesterday, although for Explorers-1815.

Each unit is based off of the Memory Cards.
Each unit has a worksheet, with 8 or so questions.

Then there are projects, anywhere from 2-4 per unit. The projects are things like draw a map, make a salt map of the Explorers routes, artsy-crafty projects based on the time, make your own game ideas. etc.

Then each unit has a test, again 8 or so questions, fill in the blank...most questions are similiar to what was on the worksheet.

There is also a few literature units based on books that correlate with the cards. I will probably use these for my DS10.

See it now, I would not buy it again. Actually I only got it because it was part of a good deal with the cards, I was looking for the cards. I might use the TM as a very basis starting point for DS6, but most of it will be way over his head. I already bought All American History for DS10, so this stuff will just be time-fillers if we use any of it. I can see using this Manual if you just want a very brief glimpse if this is your only History curriculum, along with the other spines listed on the cards. Not for us, though.

Thanks for the reply! So, all of the reading books in their catalog, are they scheduled in the TM or at least suggested at certain points? I see they have sooo many books in their catalog, I wondered if they helped you schedule them out.

Is a "unit" one card or several?

Thanks for the help!

I don't have the Exploreres - 1815 manual, but I have two other manuals. I think they are all structured similarly. At first glance, it seems the TM has a pretty rigid format, but it is a very easy to use program. I have my 1st and 3rd grader answer the questions for the worksheet, but we don't use ANY of the tests. Occassionally, I ask my kids some of the test questions orally because it provides a nice cumulative review.

In addition to what was previously listed, the TM contains the words to the memory song that you can purchase to go along with your History Cards. There is also an appendix that contains extra resources and a description on how to integrate history and writing, and history and grammar.

Usually there are 4 literature units for each year. Projects vary from cut and paste, arts/crafts, cooking, writing projects, research, etc.

I have used this with my kids all year. I had been wondering if we'd use the same program for next year, and I just decided that we'll most likely stick with it--mostly, because my kids have really been able to remember MUCH of what we've covered this year.

Here is a link that explains how I do our VP history if your interested:

Hope this helps!
