I am trying to find out what type of extra work is in the IG for SL7 History. We will be doing it next year and wanted to compare that with outlining KHE for another year. Or could my dd do both??? :)

Thanks.

We are doing Core 7. Could you be more specific? What kind of extra work? I'll be glad to help you out. I'll check back tomorrow.

I am curious what the IG has listed for the student to do besides read the text each day. I have a sample from SL's website but it only has the scheduling page for weeks 1, 18 and 36.

I am familiar with SL1 and 2. Usually, the History section in the appendix listed facts the student should have retained from the reading, some map work, etc.

What does it show for SL7? Right now my dd is listening to SOTW2 (second time around), reading KHE and outlining it as recommended in TWWM. But I would like to do SOTW 3 and 4 with SL7 next year (grade 7) so we can do an entire year of Am. History in grade 8. If I knew what it had, I could decide if she should do those activites or just read and continue outlining KHE.

I hope this makes sense.

I have experience with 6 and 7.

The IG format is exactly the same as 1 and 2. There are timeline and map facts, as well as discussion questions. Of course the comprehension and discussion questions are far meatier than the material for the younger cores :) .

2 to 4 SOTW chapters are covered each week. The corresponding pages in the Usborne Internet Linked Encyclopedia of World History are scheduled, too. (This is the "UILE" referenced in the SOTW AG's).

In Core 7 there are writing assignments for each week. My sons also outline UILE and write summaries or narrations for SOTW. If you wanted to outline Kingfisher and ignore the UILE, you could just use the notes in the SOTW AG to find the corresponding KF pages.

Unlike Cores 1 and 2, the readers and read-alouds for Cores 6 and 7 go along with the history. There are great notes for these books, too.

I hope this answers some of your questions! SL 7 as written is pretty thorough, if you do the research papers and writing assignments.

I prefer to have my boys do outlining, narrations, summaries, and book reports as well. Not all at once and not every day, but frequently! I want them to have the writing practice, and I want a paper trail of their studies.
