We have done a year's worth of curriculum in six months and I think we are all fried. I think I want to end our school year now and take a break for a couple of weeks. We can do school lite then for mid April - mid August before starting back up in September. There is still stuff I would like to get to (there always is) but I think I should stop -- why is that so hard? I think part of the problem for me is that I see all of this stuff I bought and feel like I should absolutely get to it! We could be doing more, learning more, accomplishing more!! On the other hand, we have done a year's worth of math, latin, language arts, history, geography, and science along with art, music, logic workbooks, p.e. programs, and much more. We schooled through last summer too. May I stop now? And what about all that pesky extra curriculum staring me down?? :001_unsure:

I would use day one of your break to hide the curriculum in a closet or on a bookshelf in a room you don't spend much time in:D

OH My, Absolutely you can stop now. I've been going into panic mode lately thinking of all I didn't get to this year, but my dh said something to me when he called to say he'd be coming home soon. "Isn't this supposed to be more fun, it's not about finishing all the books honey, it's about making sure they really learn and enjoy what they've done" Man that just made my day. I know we can relax, slow down and enjoy the rest of our year. We'll just pick up with the books we didn't finish next year.

So go ahead, take a break and you can always add some of those other things in next year.

I was talking to a really seasoned homeschool mom who told me that even in the schools, they NEVER finish their books in the course of a year. I started to think back about my public school experience and realized how true that was! It really helped me to see that I don't have to kill myself and my ds in the process. I think I'll try to do a little throughout the summer so we don't have to review so much in the fall, but I'm so excited for summer to come. I told my son that we are going to enjoy the break by going to the zoo and science center and children's museum and doing all the stuff we don't have time to cram in during the school year! We are all looking forward to it - and we'll still be learning! Shhh....don't tell him! :)

We just took a week off when DS5 finished a level of math because we were exhausted. We started back at it yesterday, but will be pretty light until the fall. If you are exhausted and need a break, I would take it (and no feeling guilty!). Especially since you said you would be starting again mid-April. You deserve a break!
