My dd, 14, attends public school. She has been sick since last Tuesday - saw Doc. Wed. and had bronchitis. Has been on antibiotics since then..and out of school. She still has a deep cough - no fever, though. Has been able to play computer and watch tv and read all weekend. Do I "force" her to go to school or keep her home? How long can such a deep cough last, anyway? Sigh.

maybe weeks or months. I had bronchitis 2 years ago and the deep cough lasted 6 weeks, although I wasn't on antibiotics.

My youngest has had something that has pretty much lasted for a month with a lot of coughing.

I would most likely send my kids in that circumstances particularly if the doc said it was okay.

I hope she recovers quickly.

Send her to school but give her some Delsym cough medicine if you have any. It works for a very long time and is really effective.

Hope she feels better soon,

I think you have to send her. When ds had pneumonia, the cough lasted over 4 months, even after antibiotic treatment. He wasn't contagious, and he wasn't really sick -- he just had a residual cough for a looong time. (According to his ped, it wasn't an unusual amount of time though.)

I would give her cough medicine before she goes -- just so she doesn't distress anyone with her scary-sounding cough. ;)

If all she has is a cough and feels well, I'd send her to school. I'm now on my 3rd week of bronchitis and all that's left is this cough and a hoarse voice. I feel great though. I'm thinking this cough could persist for awhile..
