I want something fairly easy to follow that covers the basics and then perhaps gets a little deeper.

Dh is teaching our 3dc Bible. He spent a good portion of time at the last curriculum fair looking over the offerings and found Bob Jones's stuff to be pretty good.
I've been curious about Answers in Genesis's offerings, esp. the Seven C's of History, but have yet to see a hard copy to know what it's like.
Our children's ages are 10, 8, and 6 (I'm not sure what age group you were looking for).

Maybe Explorer's Bible Study (http://www.explorerbiblestudy.org/login.php) or Grapevine Studies (http://www.grapevinestudies.com/).

Can you give us some more information: Denomination? Age range? Academic or devotional focus?
For a "mere Christian," academic approach, I like Memoria Press's Christian Studies program. It uses a (Protestant) children's story bible and is designed for grades 3-5 or so. HTH!

R&S offers a Bible study program from 5th to 8th grade. It's very straight forward, and the series runs from Genesis to Revelation over the 4-year program. They use the KJV of the Bible which has actually been helpful when we study Shakespeare. I stop using their Bible program in the 8th grade because in the higher levels you do run into their Mennonite doctrine.

I will second the R&S Bible study. It has really helped us here. It is very thorough, straight forward, and easy to use.

I have a very high opinion of Explorer's.
I also have a good opinion of Rod and Staff--good basic overview.
I have not reviewed Memoria Press personally.

We have been using Explorer's this year and it has been good. For next year I will probably continue Explorer's w/ dd9, but switch to R&S-5 for dd12.

I really, really like Christian Liberty Press' Bible curriculum. It works to retention, but also has application and thinking questions.

We've used Veritas Press for Bible for 3 years now. It is very good for teaching facts about the Bible. It does not have application questions at all. Another resource that we are using as a family is Balancing the Sword. It has questions on every chapter of the Bible. They are mostly factual questions, but they have led our family into some discussions.

There is another approach--I saw it on a woman's website years ago. I thought it was ingenious.
It was a study of Proverbs--divided up into several categories--money, friends, pride and humility, speech, God and His word, parents and children, self control and temptation.
The idea was to take a bunch of pages and label them with this category at the top.
Then, read one chapter of Proverbs a day and write out any of the passages which correspond to the above categories on that sheet.
At the end of the month, the "assignment" was to pick two topics and write out what proverbs had to say about it--and then how you would live according to it.
I started this project, but I became confused when it wasn't clear to me if something "belonged" to a category or not--but I think that if I do this again, I'll just write down the references for the passages on a piece of paper--and then copy and paste from an on-line Bible into a document. Then, at the end of the month, I can print the thing out and study it and then write my essay.
It's a thought.

We loved the Kay Arthur Discover for Yourself Bible Studies for Kids. We have used the entire series. I intend to use Faith Factor both Old and New Testament next year with my 7th grader.
