I'd like something where I can enter items I'd like to have on flashcards and the program will flash me. :) I'm thinking of this for myself for Latin, but it might work for the kids too. ("Free" would be nice too!)
If there's nothing like this, I suppose I'd settle for a free, easy way to make printable flash cards (but then there'd be all that cutting....)
Know of anything?

Know of anything?I Googled "flashcards" and here's one thing I came up with. Don't know if it's free, but you can try this one or do a Google search for others.

I think it was Meliss that put some Latin Prep I vocabulary into flashcards at www.studystack.com. It has other fun games to play with the vocabulary cards.

I saw your question, couldn't find the link that I was looking for, asked DH about it, and then forgot to reply. But I finally remember today...better late than never, right?
Anyway, we've used the free download for Vtrain: http://www.paul-raedle.de/vtrain/home.htm
We've thought about purchasing the program, but we since we don't use it as consistently as we like, we're still undecided at this point.

Does anyone know if there's an electronic portable device for flashcards? (Other than cardboard, that is...)
I'd love to have something for the car.

Yes, that would be great. I really don't like taking flashcards in the car because we never come back with as many cards as we left with. It's like socks in a dryer...

I've been punching holes in the corners and putting them on a big 2 to 2-1/2 inch ring. This might work for you for the car.

Thanks Beth! I must not have subscribed to this thread and missed your post. (Just noticed it as I was looking through a list of threads I started.) I've been using studystack.com for my Latin flashcards, but I'll check out your link too.

I too wish there was a portable electronic flash card system! I think that Karenciavo has a way of putting flashcards on an iPod, but I "think" I'm remembering that it's Mac software she uses.

Hmmm...I've never seen studystack.com. I'll have DH look at it too since they have a Greek link. Thanks!

I was looking at the differences between the 2 programs. Studystack has the flashcards done for you already while VTrain allows you to create your own flashcards. I can see advantages to both programs. However, one of the drawbacks to VTrain is when you need to create more flashcards, but you can't find the time.

If you join Studystack you can make your own stacks. Studystack does have a way for Windows users to put flashcards onto iPods. I've never checked it out, but choose a stack (http://www.studystack.com/menu-97751) and then click export and you are brought to a window with various export types (http://www.studystack.com/export-97751&stackName=SAT%20words%20%28A%29).

You can do it in Powerpoint (basically a slide show).
Office Max also has index cards with a hole in the corner that you can put on a ring (I use these for our Latin vocab). They come in 3x5 but also in a set that's perforated so you get 2 small cards for each 3x5 (did that description make any sense?).

I have Pro Voc I think that would fit the bill for you. Simple to use but you will have to goggle it as I have no idea where I found it.

Beth, I've been creating cards in StudyStack as I go through LitCT chapters. There's also a way to import a table, but I haven't tried it yet. (I'm thinking that I could type the Latin to English in a table of my own, then copy the columns in reverse, English to Latin, before importing. This way I could have flash cards both ways without retyping in StudyStack. I haven't read how to do it yet though.)
Thanks, everyone, for the links and info on exporting the cards! I'll check them out!
