I've been reading about things like fish oil supplements and omega-3 supplements that folks have found helpful in affecting their cholesterol levels. Have any of you tried them or something else and found success with supplements in lowering cholesterol? Mine is borderline high and I'd like to nip things in the bud if ykwim. :-) I'm afraid I have a genetic predisposition as my father's side of the family has a history of high cholesterol. I am thin, eat relatively well, and am surprised at my borderline high numbers except for the family history. :-{

I just ran across this site today. Looks like a lot of interesting suggestions. http://evenstaronline.com/articles/cholesterol.html, Not on the list here is Pomegranate juice which is supposed to be very helpful. HTH

wow jacqui! That's a looooong list, lol.
I can share that my dh's cholesterol was excellent at his last medical --he's been taking CALM [calcium/magnesium powder supplement -reduces stress and helps him sleep at night], B-12 dots, Vit E, Vit C, and garlic. i noticed those were all on the list shared above.
good luck!

I suppose if you did everything on that list you'd end up with Negative Cholesterol....:o)

My sister had good results from adding cinnamon bark capsules to her supplements. Before that her cholesterol had been high for years, even with medication. Cinnamon brought it down to normal.
I found that pomegranite capsules brought my starting-to-climb blood pressure back to normal, but it's supposed to be helpful for cholesterol too.
Artichoke capsules are supposed to help cholesterol A QWLL.
The American diet is too high in omega-6. If you add a supplement, make sure it is only omega-3 and not a "balanced" supplement that includes omega-6.

I usually order online from Vitacost (http://www.vitacost.com). I used to order from iHerb until they got bought out and raised their prices. Some of the supplements I have seen locally too, at Target (cinnamon) and Sam's Club (pomegranite capsules, but seems to be an on-and-off item for them).

Hypothyroidism can make cholesterol levels higher than normal. Other than that, just try to avoid ALL trans fats (partially and fully hydrogenated oils) b/c they are the worst offenders. Eat lots of WILD CAUGHT fish or take a fish oil supplement.

in two months. It was over 300, down to just over 200, and my "good" cholesterol was 70 (normal is 30ish).

Psyllium fibre (Metamucil) is excellent for dealing with cholesterol. You can now buy it in capsules or "biscuits" which may be more palatable than stirring it into a liquid. Also, almonds and walnuts.
